Welcome to Il Gattopardo at The Rockefeller Townhouses
It is with joy that we welcome you to The Rockefeller Townhouses, our home at 13-15 West 54th Street. Built in 1897 by architect Henry Hardenbergh (Dakota Building and Plaza Hotel), on the so-called “Millionaire’s Row” in the heart of Midtown Manhattan, the buildings were designed in the Beaux Arts Renaissance style. Together with the University Club, constructed at 1 West 54th Street, and other distinguished houses on the same block, these buildings are examples of the fashionable structures that once characterized the West Fifties between Fifth and Sixth Avenues - now a Nationally Registered Historic Place. The Rockefeller Townhouses (originally built for William Murray, a prominent businessman from Larchmont, New York) are known by the name of their most famous owner, John D. Rockefeller who called them home for nearly forty years with his wife, Laura Spelman, and their five children. The renovation project was under the guidance of K/R Architects, the same architectural firm that created the original Il Gattopardo back in 2001. In the new house, Il Gattopardo gains an intimate bar and a marvelous private event space with capacity up to 120 seats. The main dining room has been designed to translate our vision of comfort, modernity, but above all, simplicity, and to keep alive Il Gattopardo’s understated elegance.
We welcome you to join us on this journey, as always have the pleasure of your company at Mozzarella & Vino - Il Gattopardo’s youngest sibling, a rustic enoteca with a heavy emphasis on the Mozzarella di buffala Campana, Italian cheeses and affettati - and at The Leopard at des Artistes - located in one of the most iconic spaces in New York City, Hotel des Artistes. The nine remarkable oil-on-canvas mural series by Howard Chandler Christy of “Fantasy Scenes with Naked Beauties” painted in the end of 1920’s, were restored and are throughout The Leopard at des Artistes’ newly renovated space.
Il Gattopardo serves traditional Southern Italian comfort food that has been adapted for the contemporary palate without compromising the authenticity of the cuisine, which became a must to its loyal upscale New Yorker clientele. We are committed to producing top quality Southern Italian gastronomy, to the use of authentic ingredients, and to keeping the tradition of Italian culture, and hospitality, vibrant and passionate.
We look forward to welcoming you to Il Gattopardo, The Sorrentinos and Family
